Welcome To The Future Of Automobiles
We, at Protect My Car, love cars and we also love outer space, so you can imagine our excitement when Elon Musk’s Tesla Roadster made its trip into space! SpaceX’s Falcon Heavy Rocket set off from Cape Canaveral, Florida on February 6th. Onboard was CEO Elon Musk’s red Tesla Roadster and Starman, a mannequin “driver” in a SpaceX suit.

Engineering Marvels
The launch of the Falcon Heavy has given SpaceX the title of the world’s most powerful rocket. It’s launch also marks the first time a vehicle, of this size and weight, has ever been sent up into space by a commercial company. The Falcon Heavy lift-off was successful with its 27 engines, which is more than any rocket in history has ever used. Together they can create 5 million pounds of trust to initiate blast off. This means the Falcon Heavy can carry more cargo weight than any other rocket in history! This means we are all one step closer to commercial space travel, which is pretty cool.

Spaceman Live Streams His Road-trip
Those of us on Earth received a nice treat as the Tesla Roadster and Starman live-streamed its interstellar cruise. The Roadster cruised and streamed for several hours before the rocket completed its last engine burn, placing the car into its final orbit. Jonathan McDowell, an astrophysicist at Harvard and an expert on spaceflight, says the vehicle will approach Mars by 2020 and will be around 7 million km from Mars. This is still outside of the red planet’s gravitational sphere; therefore, it will continue cruising past the Red Planet.

Driving Into The Sunset…Of Another Sun
Starman and his Tesla Roadster have a long trip ahead of them. The success of SpaceX launching an automobile into space demonstrates the fact that we are one step closer to sending resources and technology into space and to Mars. Let’s just hope that Spaceman does not need any roadside assistance during his trip or he will be waiting for a tow truck for a very, very long time.
