Having your vehicle break down is never fun. Whether it’s on your way to work, during a night on the town, or on the way to get your kids from school, we’ve got you covered.
To make your claim as easy as possible, we’ve outlined the steps on how to file a claim with our claims department. Follow these 8 steps so we can get your vehicle repaired and your butt back in the driver’s seat as soon as possible.
1: If you know something is wrong, prevent further damage.
You know what they say about driving down the road. If your car is rocking, the repair bills are gonna come knocking. They do say that, right?
Preventing damage is easier said than done sometimes, but the more damage you prevent, the sooner you can get your car repaired. It also will make filing your claim with us that much easier.
The best way to prevent further damage is to stop driving as soon as possible if you haven’t already. It might not seem like a big deal if your car is making a minor noise, but that minor noise could mean a big repair. If you can, taking your vehicle directly to an ASE certified mechanic is what we recommend. If you can drive to the repair shop, skip to step 3.
If you have already pulled over, or are broken down somewhere, use our 24/7 roadside assistance to arrange to have your vehicle towed for free to the nearest ASE certified mechanic.
2: Contact our 24/7 roadside assistance, if it’s included in your plan.
All of our plans include roadside assistance. That means if you have one of the following plans, you have 24/7 roadside assistance:
- Driveline
- Select
- Supreme
Protect My Car’s roadside assistance contact phone number: 1-888-676-4762
Once you contact our 24/7 roadside assistance, arrange to have your vehicle towed to a licensed repair shop. If you need help locating a good repair shop near you, please call our claims department at the number in step 5.
3: Take your vehicle to a licensed repair shop.
Unlike some vehicle service contract providers, one of the biggest benefits of having a plan with us is that you can take your vehicle to any licensed repair facility you choose.
As long as you choose from one of over 500,000 ASE certified mechanics across the country, you are in good shape.
Once you get to the repair shop, present the mechanic with your Protect My Car membership card from your policy book. Your membership card has our claims number on it, so the repair shop can contact us. Please instruct the mechanic to give us a call, because they will need to obtain an authorization number from us.
4: Have your repair records ready (just in case)
During the claims process, our claims department may ask for maintenance records, and/or receipts of previous repair work done. This can include repair orders from a licensed repair facility, or a self-maintained maintenance log (including the one you can find in your vehicle’s owner’s manual) accompanied with receipts for services performed.
Occasionally our claims department will need these in order to identify how the breakdown happened.
5: Call our claims department before you give the mechanic permission to do any repairs.
Once you have given your card to the mechanic, the mechanic may need to test certain components of your vehicle. The labor and testing require your authorization.
We recommend that you call our claims department before you make any decisions. Speaking with one of our claims agents will help you get the ball rolling.

Depending on the work needed, we may have your vehicle inspected before the repairs are done, although this is rare.
If work is performed without our authorization, then they will not be covered, unless they are considered an emergency repair. See below.
For a simple emergency repair, which is any covered repair requiring two (2) hours or less of labor time to complete, YOU may authorize the LICENSED REPAIR FACILITY to perform the repair. YOU must call PROTECT MY CAR LLC during normal business hours, within five (5) business days of your simple repair, for instructions on how to be reimbursed for your simple repair.
On all major emergency repairs (any repair that is not a “simple emergency repair”), DO NOT authorize the repair facility to perform the repair. Please call OUR Claims Department immediately to get authorization.
6: Review your coverage with your mechanic
Once you and your mechanic have spoken to our claims department, your mechanic will review your coverage with you. Generally, they will break down which repairs will be covered and which will not. Repairs that are not covered will be your responsibility.
As a reminder, Protect My Car does not cover wear and tear items like brake pads, spark plugs, windshield wipers, and tires.
You can also check the chart below to get a sense of what is covered by your policy. For a more comprehensive list of what’s covered, please click on your policy type below. Scroll down to the “Covered Components” section to view your specific coverage.
You can also consult the contract book the was mailed to you when you bought a policy with us.
Vehicle Service Contracts:
7: Pay your deductible (and get your car fixed!)
To get your vehicle repaired, you’ll need to pay your required deductible, just like you have to along with insurance. Your deductible is the specified amount of money that you must pay before Protect My Car can pay your claim.
If you pay your deductible to us, you must fill out a credit card authorization form (which we will provide to you) as well as a copy of your license (or the credit card holder’s license if you are using someone else’s card) and a front & back copy of your credit card. We use these checks to avoid fraud and to ensure we can pay your claim as quickly as possible.
You can send these forms to filings@protectmycar.com.
Our 3 vehicle service plans each have different deductibles which you may have to pay to us. They are:
Protect My Car Vehicle Service Contract Deductibles:
- Driveline: $200 dollars
- Select: $100 dollars
- Supreme: $100 dollars
Once you have obtained authorization for the repairs needed, Protect My Car will pay the repair shop directly. You will not have to pay out of pocket unless you are performing an emergency repair (which is any repair that takes less than 2 labor hours to fix).
Once the repair is completed, make sure you (or the repair shop) submit the repair orders and other required documents to our claims department for documentation.
If you need a rental car while repairs are being performed we will reimburse you for up to $30 dollars per day. Save the receipt from your rental car, and submit it to us along with your required documentation and we will reimburse you for it.
8: Keep doing your maintenance (and being awesome!)
Once your vehicle is repaired, you are good to go! Just make sure you are having your regularly scheduled maintenance done. That means changing your fluids, tires, brakes, and all that good stuff.
To help you out, all of our plans now include free maintaince perks! You are entiled to three oil changes and two tire rotations per year, which we pay for as a part of your plan at no extra charge to you. Make sure you take advantage of these. The process is the same as submitting a claim. Just call our claims number and one of our agents will walk you through the process.

Don’t Have A Plan Yet? Get America’s Best Vehicle Service Contract & Get Protected
Unlike some of our competitors, Protect My Car has no middleman when it’s time for you to get your claims paid. Other companies (and we’re not pointing any fingers, but you probably have seen their commercials on TV) who sell you coverage do not actually pay your claims.
When you buy a plan with the other guys, your contract is shipped off to a finance company that has every incentive to pay as little in claims are possible.
But we’re different. We are one of only 3 companies in the entire country that have all the licensing necessary to not use a middleman. That means you will never have to talk to a third party finance company who you’ll have to fight to get anything paid. You’ll have our friendly agents at your side all the way from the first moment you get a quote with us to the moment when your first repair comes up.
Get coverage from the company that’s always on your side by filling out the form below, so that way, the next time your car breaks down we’ll have your back.
