Protect My Car pays for your auto repairs. It’s like car insurance for all the mechanical parts of your car that insurance doesn’t cover like the engine, transmission, or A/C.
If you don’t have Protect My Car when your vehicle breaks down, you could be stuck paying thousands for repairs like:
- Engine Replacement: $2,187+
- Transmission Replacement: $1,861+
- Suspension Repairs: $1,238+
- A/C Compressor: $650+
- And so much more…
Car insurance does not pay for these repairs if you don’t get into an accident. But we do. When your vehicle breaks down and you have a plan with Protect My Car, we will pay for repairs like these so you don’t have to.
So What Is Protect My Car, Exactly?
If your car broke down right now, could you afford to pay for the expensive repair? An engine, transmission, air-conditioning, or suspension breakdown could cost thousands of dollars.
A vehicle service contract from Protect My Car is meant to help you pay for these repairs after your car’s factory warranty expires. Typically, a new car will have a factory warranty for 3 years / 36,000 miles where the manufacturer will repair any problems to the car for free.
You can extend this protection for up to 300,000 miles with a vehicle service contract from Protect My Car. A vehicle service contract (also known as an extended warranty) is a plan which helps cover the cost of repairs as your car ages. The older your car is (and the more miles it has) the more likely it is to need repairs.
A vehicle service contract with Protect My Car can potentially save you thousands when surprise car repairs come up. We pay for over $1.2 million in repairs each month, to our members across the United States. To date, we’ve helped over 551,658+ people across the country save on auto repairs.
Protect My Car’s plans don’t just cover the cost of surprise repairs. All plans also include free 24/7 roadside assistance, which means you get access to towing, lockout services, flat tire assistance, and emergancy gas if you run out.
Plus, new plans also include free oil changes, free tire rotations, and over $150 in rewards cash each month to spend at your favorite stores and resteraunts.
How Does Protect My Car Work?
If you are interested in learning more about what options your vehicle may qualify for, here’s how the entire process works from quote to claim!
1: Request a free quote
Your first step is to tell us a little bit about your vehicle so we can help you find the best coverage options available. You can do that by filling out a quote request here.
You can also call us at 866-286-7452 to get your quote even faster.
We cover vehicles that are 1998 or newer with up to 300,000 miles, which is over 50,000 miles higher than the other guys. When you request a free quote, one of our vehicle protection specialists will personally review each of the coverage options in order to find the best plan for you.
2: Personalize your coverage
Once one of our vehicle protection specialists has found the best options for your vehicle, they will call you to help customize the perfect plan for your vehicle and your budget.
We help you personalize the best options for your vehicle and budget. We will also explain everything that is covered, as well as all the great benefits to each of our plans. Once you are satisfied that your level of coverage fits your car and your budget you’ll be one step closer to getting protected.
3: Choose your plan (or bundle coverage)
Once you are happy with your coverage and the add ons, we will help you find a payment plan that works for you. We understand times are tough right now and you need flexible payments. That’s why we offer flexible payment terms that are easy for you and your budget. Our typical member pays around $2 per day for the coverage that gives them complete freedom from repair bills.
While you are choosing your plan, you can also add in auto insurance (and save up to 20% a month) and get complete protection for your car. Car insurance, plus a vehicle service contract protects you from accidents and break downs! That means no matter what, you are covered!
4: Drive with confidence!
Once you are covered with us, it’s time to get back on the road! Let us handle your car repair worries. Our members always tell us how great it felt to take the plunge with a vehicle service contract from Protect My Car.
Take this review from Sugar, one of Protect My Car’s many happy members:

I appreciate this warranty program. I left Carshield and I do not regret it. So far Protect My Car has not disappointed. They are attentive to your needs. They care about their members. They do what they say they are going to do and they are reachable in every department. They work fast with my mechanic.

5: Take advantage of free maintaince
Every plan we offer now includes free oil changes and tire rotations. Make sure you take advantage of them to keep your car running in tip-top shape!
6: When something breaks, you call us
When something goes wrong with your car, you don’t have to wonder about how you’re paying the bill. You call us, and we pay the mechanic directly so you don’t have to. All you are responsible for paying is any deductible you have.
Once the work is done, the mechanic sends us the bill and you get to drive off without paying thousands out of pocket.
Sounds like a pretty good deal, right?
What Makes Protect My Car Different From Everyone Else?
Most vehicle service contract companies use a middleman. We don’t. For you, that means your claims get paid faster, and you never have to deal with an outside company that has no connection to you as a person.
With any vehicle service contract, there are 3 parties (which is a legal term, meaning a business/person) which are: the seller, the administrator, and you.
I think you have a pretty good idea who you are, so I’ll focus on the other two.
The “seller” of a vehicle service contract is the company you contact in order to purchase your policy. The seller will create your policy, and then once you sign on the dotted line, your policy is the responsibility of the administrator. Typically, the seller will then be paid by the administrator, and then the seller is off to the next customer.
The “administrator” the company that is responsible for paying your claims, and is almost always a different company from the seller. Each administrator is different and some are better than others, but there’s one major problem: because the administrator does not market/sell its own contracts, there’s no repercussion for poor service or not paying claims.
To show you why this is, imagine you go out to eat at a chain restaurant like Fridays or Texas Road House. As you’re flipping through the menu you see the bone-in honey bbq wings and immediately your mind is made up. You order the wings and hungrily lick your lips.
But when the wings come out, to your shock, not only are they boneless, but the “BBQ” sauce tastes more like ketchup!
After finishing your wings, you leave a bad review of the resteraunt and then move on with your life (or, you’re like me and hold on to the grudge for a lifetime).
But hiding behind the scenes is a simple truth: the resteraunt really wasn’t to blame. See, the resteraunt just heated up the frozen wings before serving them to you.
As you might imagine, this arrangement is great for the seller who gets to
What’s The Difference Between Protect My Car and Insurance?
A vehicle service plan is different than insurance.
Car insurance is meant to cover your car in case of accidental damage, such as a car crash or an act of nature like a hurricane, tornado, or flood.
A vehicle service contract from Protect My Car does not cover accidents like insurance. Instead, it pays for repairs to your car when it breaks down due to manufacturing defects or issues with other car parts.
Car insurance does not cover breakdowns, so having both car insurance and a vehicle service contract can provide you with complete protection from any issues your car may experience, whether they are related to an accident or to a breakdown.
A vehicle service contract from Protect My Car offers several other benefits insurance typically does not, including:
- Free oil changes and tire rotations
- 24/7 roadside assistance
- $150 in rewards cash each month
- Deals with our many automotive partners, including CarFax, Jiffy Lube, and others.
Is Protect My Car Worth It?
We will be the first to tell you – not everyone needs a vehicle service contract from Protect My Car.
Your situation is completely unique, and after over 14 years in business, we know that what may be best for you may not be best for everyone else.
Because you are not the same as everyone else.
Here is the truth: most vehicle service companies will try to tell you that they are always worth it. We are not one of them, because a vehicle service contract does not make sense for everyone.
Keep in mind used, aging cars are generally more expensive to maintain. Owners of older cars are twice as likely to spend more than $1,000 a year on maintenance and repairs, according to the NPD group. A small monthly payment for protection can save you from a costly repair or replacement bill.
For example, if you can set aside around $5,000, a vehicle service contract may not be worth it for you.
But on the other hand, if you are on a fixed income and not able to absorb a big repair bill, then it might make sense.
There is no one right answer, so we will give you the facts and let you decide for yourself.
Protect My Car May NOT Be Worth It For You If:
- You have a decent sized emergency fund. It makes more sense to pay out of pocket if this is the case.
- You have a new car that is currently under warranty.
- The undercarriage of your car is very rusty. Most vehicle service contracts do not cover rust.
- You do not rely on your car or you do not drive it frequently.
- Your car is older than 1998, which may make it too old to get coverage.
- You do your own repairs or have someone close to you who will do them for you.
- You want to learn how to do car repairs yourself. We have guides to help you on our blog!
- You drive an inexpensive car that you do not want repaired when it finally breaks down.
- You drive a reliable car that appears to have no issues.
- Your car is cheap to repair and maintain.
- You plan to make aftermarket modifications to your car, which may void your contract.
- You use your car for commercial purposes. We cover commercial vehicles, but most companies do not.
- You drive a vehicle with a salvage or rebuilt title. Protect My Car offers coverage if you do, but very few other companies do.
- You have over 250,000 miles on your car. We cover up to 300,000, but again we are the only company to do so.
There are several reasons why a vehicle service might not make sense for you, and you need to consider all of them before getting a vehicle service contract.
Protect My Car May Be Worth It For You If:
- You just bought a used car that is out of warranty.
- Your car warranty is about to expire.
- You plan to keep your car for a long time.
- You drive more than the US average of about 13,500 miles each year.
- You drive a larger, more expensive vehicle such as an SUV, Minivan, or Truck.
- You own a foreign make, which tends to be more expensive to repair.
- Your car is over 10 years old, which can lead to more expensive systems breaking down.
- Your car has a technology package, which can lead to expensive repairs.
- You have over 85k miles on your car, which is where breakdowns can become more frequent.
- You worry about how you will pay for major repairs. More people worry about this than you think.
- You drive a make or model that is known to be unreliable.
- You drive a car that is broken down before.
- You would rather pay a little bit each month rather than a lot at once.
- You like having someone to turn to when things go wrong.
- You love your car and cannot imagine life without it.
If you do decide a vehicle service contract is right for you, congratulations. In our opinion, making that initial decision is the hardest part.
