This weekend is Veterans Day!
Falling on Saturday this year, November 11th honors not only the end of World War I, which formally happened on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, but it also honors all the brave Americans who have served in the United States Armed Forces. Veterans Day is nationally recognized as a holiday in which the country comes together to honor and thank our past service men and women, all of whom made sacrifices to protect us and our country.
Protect My Car does their best to thank both past and active members of the military by offering a year-round discount, which can not only help save thousands on repair but also offers 24/7 roadside assistance and dental coverage. Protect My Car covers a broad range of vehicles, providing an extended warranty on all major car brands, and included in that PMC also proudly protects certain vehicles that were originally inspired by war.
When one thinks of a Hummer, they tend to think of adjectives such as quality, high class, expensive, and in most cases, military grade. It is not a coincidence that a Hummer is often compared to a vehicle that has seen a war zone, because, in the 1980’s, the earliest version of a Hummer was created with the intent to transport troops and cargo into Panama during the Persian Gulf War. It was originally called a High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle, or HMMWV, and it was built with the purpose of transporting troops and cargo. As it developed and its name changed to a Humvee and then to a Hummer, the purpose of the vehicle changed as well. Instead of just being used by the military a civilian version of the Hummer became available in 1922, and from that Hummer evolved into what we now know today, though Hummers that are available and driven today still have clear themes and traces of military grade vehicles.
Similarly, the Jeeps that we know and love today were originally developed with the intent to help the Allies in World War II. In 1940 the US government requested that companies start working on prototypes for a vehicle that was needed by the Army, and in response, the Jeep was born. Over the years it has evolved from the first model to what it has become today, but Jeep’s origin will forever be to help support and enable our troops to be their best.
Whether a veteran has a car that was inspired by war or not, Protect My Car is proud to offer military discounts to both active and past members year-round, so that both them and their families are protected from expensive vehicle repairs.
